The climb

One step at a time

From the Normal stream to NUS, one step at a time, working part-time throughout.

  1. Normal stream

    Where it started

Not the fast lane. It meant fewer doors open at the start, so I learned early to take one step at a time.

  2. ITE College East

    The first step up

Nitec in Electronics at ITE. Head down, and it paid off.

    • GPA 4.00
    • Certificate of Merit
    • CDC & CCC ITE Scholarship
  3. Temasek Polytechnic

    A diploma in electronics

Then on to polytechnic, still working part-time.

    • Diploma with Merit
    • CGPA 3.77
    • Director's List (top 10%)
    • element14 Prize
    • Microchip Technology Prize
  4. National University of Singapore

    An engineering degree

A degree in Electrical Engineering, with an exchange semester at IIT Bombay in India. Part-time jobs the whole way through, including coordinating a restaurant's waiter roster. Good practice for building scheduling systems, as it turns out.

    • BEng (Hons) Electrical Engineering
    • Merit
    • Exchange at IIT Bombay
  5. Atos (Eviden)

Six years learning how businesses really run

As an SAP technology consultant I worked on systems for an airport operator, a maritime statutory board and a public healthcare finance provider, and trained more than 170 people to use them.

    • Procurement and invoicing
    • Bank payments
    • Data migration
    • Service delivery
    • User training
  6. Built by SAB

Building for businesses that are not big yet

I started Built by SAB to bring big-project discipline to small and growing businesses: clear requirements, proper testing and a real go-live plan.

What I do

Pick a lens

Same person, three ways in. Choose the role you are hiring for and see the work that matters most for it.

Turns messy business processes into clear requirements, swim-lane flows and tested integrations, and leads SIT/UAT through to go-live and user training.

  • Led requirements, swim-lane flowcharts and SIT/UAT for SAP-to-external-portal e-Procurement and e-Invoicing integrations for a Singapore airport operator and a Singapore maritime statutory board, then provided L2/L3 support.

    Atos (Eviden)

  • Built and delivered an event workforce platform used by 650 applicants for a major international motorsport event in Singapore, covering recruitment, onboarding, digital contracts, shift scheduling, geofenced attendance, payroll, payslips and WhatsApp notifications.

Principles

How I work

Six rules I build by, and where each one shows up in real work.

  1. Solve an actual problem.

Every project starts from the real process, from purchase order to payment or from application to payslip.

  2. Remove unnecessary work.

Self-started Excel analytics and Power Automate workflows that my team adopted.

  3. Keep complexity behind the interface.

A custom user manual and remote training for 170+ stakeholders on a new e-Invoicing process.

  4. Build for mobile first.

On the workforce platform, applying, onboarding and clocking in all work from a phone.

  5. Ship securely.

Role-based access, mandatory staff MFA, encrypted sensitive fields and a full audit trail.

  6. Operate what we build.

L2 and L3 support after go-live on enterprise systems, and staged, tested releases on the platforms I build.

Selected work

Problem, what I did, outcome

Clients are anonymised.

  • Event Workforce Platform

    Problem
Staffing hundreds of temporary event workers means applications, onboarding, contracts, scheduling, attendance and payroll all have to work as one connected flow across many locations.
    What I did
Founder and sole builder: requirements, design, development, UAT iteration with the client and release management.
    Outcome
End-to-end flow from public mobile application to payslip in one configuration-driven platform.

A decision I made: Configuration-driven rather than hard-coded to one event, so the platform can be reused for future projects

  • e-Procurement and e-Invoicing integrations

    Problem
Purchase and invoice data had to flow between SAP and external portals reliably for a Singapore airport operator and a Singapore maritime statutory board.
    What I did
Requirements, flowcharts, SIT/UAT lead, L2/L3 support, user manual and training.
    Outcome
    170+ stakeholders trained remotely.

About

Big-company discipline, for businesses that aren't big yet.

Built by SAB is a small Singapore studio run by Yahya and Sheikha. Yahya builds the apps and systems; Sheikha helps people find them. We bring the way big projects are run (clear requirements, proper testing, a real go-live plan) to small and growing businesses, and we stay after launch.

“SAP taught me how a business really runs, from purchase order to payment. Honestly? I think it's the best business software ever made. Built by SAB brings that discipline to businesses that don't need it (or can't afford it) yet.”
